PROJECT INSIGHTS

This project involved the development of a sophisticated, IoT-enabled Navy Port Management System. The core of this system is a web-based application designed for accessibility even in areas with limited or intermittent internet connectivity. Deployed on a local area network (LAN), the application seamlessly integrates with an array of IoT devices strategically placed within the port. This integration allows for real-time management and monitoring of all truck in-scanning and out-scanning activities. Critically, the system captures detailed information about the goods being transported, both inbound and outbound, enabling efficient port management and significantly reducing the risk of theft. The development process followed a structured, systematic approach, beginning with thorough requirement gathering to fully understand the specific needs and challenges of the Navy port. This was followed by a comprehensive design phase, where the system architecture, user interface, and data flow were carefully planned. The development phase utilized modern technologies, including Node.js for the backend, MongoDB for the database, Express.js for the API framework, and React.js for the front-end, ensuring a robust and scalable solution.  An Agile methodology was adopted throughout the project lifecycle, facilitating iterative development, continuous testing, and close collaboration with stakeholders. This agile approach was instrumental in delivering the project on time and within budget. Rigorous testing was conducted at each stage to ensure system stability, performance, and security. The final stage involved deployment of the system onto the LAN network and integration with the IoT hardware, followed by comprehensive user training. The web application’s design prioritizes accessibility, ensuring usability even in low-bandwidth environments.

OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVEMENTS

The Navy port faced significant challenges related to theft, inefficient port management practices, and reliance on manual tracking methods using pen and paper. These issues resulted in reduced operational productivity and financial losses. A modern, automated solution was needed to effectively monitor and manage port activities, accurately track goods, and enhance security.
